Dec 24th Dear Mrs Post, I am forced by the painful circumstance of long silence, to thus formally addup you instead of the endearing appellation of Sister Amy which I have so much loved to use by your consent. I have in vain sought through friends to aseertane [sic] the reason why my first and long letter addressed to you after my return from R r had not been answerd[sic] - not one hear mentioned you - but I have once seen your name in the papers, so I found you had not passd [sic] away, as the only reason on that could have made me believe that I had thus forfeited your lovely a kind reply - Had I ever thought or spoke unkindly of you I should say I was in fault. Did I not love you, I could pass it by as a think of earth, but too kindly have we ever met, to think of it without pain and I now beg to know that cause, unwilling to defer the question longer _ a kind remembrance to your husband, and may I not still say, my brothe [sic] Isaac.
