Jericho June 22nd
Dear Aunt
Received thy welcome
letter tonight, we were thinking
about you, that it was quite time
to hear from you. We had heard
that you went to N.Y. second day
morning, and that was all.
I have been thinking of writing to
thee, but have so much to do all
the time, and have not felt at
all well for over a week, today
have been here alone all day
and have been on the sofa much
of the time, but feel better tonight,
Father Mother and [Nettie?] went to
(Page 2)
Huntington this morning were
gone all day, It makes a pretty
long day, to get up and have
breakfast, so that Father cant start
by six oclock for Syosset, then not
get back at night till seven, it
is very tiresome for him, I don’t
know how he will get long with
it. The Carpenters have not quite
finished making out the estimate
yet, but suppose fourth day every
thing will be settled, It seems to
take so much longer than one
would think to get the plans &
every thing fixed. Wood will do
the work I expect. H Horton wants
it, but we think he has enough
on his hands. Wood says they
will have it done by the first
of October. but rather think it
will be a little longer.

Aunt Hannah was not well last
week, her head distressed her so
much she is smart again now
and her eyes seem better. Julia
was away a day or two and I guess
got over done it was so warm.
Sixth day I went to Cedar Swamp
to get some bitter, they have to
keep all their milk home, over
two hundred qts a day, so they
are making a quantity of butter,
Grandmother said one day they
churned four times, and weighed
it, the weight was forty one pounds
I guess they have churned three
times a day quite often.
Uncle Willet has been down to N.Y.
a good many times to try to get
some one to take the milk, but
as yet cannot find any one. he
has missed his chills, a number
(Page 4)
of days. but looks miserably yet,
they have had Eddie vaccinated
his arm was getting quite sore,
It seems to be a little doubtful
about aunt Marys going home
now, perhaps she will wait and
go with Susan, she goes in four
or five weeks. They were beginning
to have strawberries. quite plenty.
They had put up four cans that
morning and had some for dinner
too. How did thy currants [illegible]
supposed they must have reached
there safely. It is thought we are
going to have a very small
supply of fruits here this season.
I am going to Weathing at uncle
Isaacs to can some strawberries, we
are not going to have any on our
shed or very few.
Maria goes up every day and gets
the nuns meals there, in the old
Shop by the well. John Shaw has
got back again been to Ireland
says he wished Maria had burnt up
in the house.
Third day morn 23rd
Did not succeed in finishing this
last eve so will try now. Nellie went
up with Father this morning leaving
Mother with me today. They were going
to Oyster today, there seems so many
ways to go to get things to keep house
[Continues upward into right margin]
with. when every thing is gone.

Uncle Elias was at New York
yesterday, and sent word up this morn
ing that [Trine?] and Sam were coming
up today to take up uncle Williams
remains, suppose there will not be
time for them to come up here.
Perhaps we will go down there to
see them a little while.
Lydia has written to him in
regard to William S. She said “that
finding his visits had been so
burdensome up here, perhaps they
would be willing to take him for
a moderate board, or if they did not
feel like it perhaps he could find
some place up here for him. the
house was closed or going to be.”
They seem to be determined that
we shall have the care and trouble
(Page 6)
of him any howl. uncle Elias has
not answered it yet. I fear if he
don’t pretty soon, they will send
him off without hearing from him.
I should think uncle James and
wife might take him to Staten
Island with them. I am sure
Sarahs house is large enough &
help enough to do the work.
Did thee hear any thing about
his coming up when you were at
Aunt Esters. Lydia said he was
worrying so to go somewhere. I dont
know where he is staying now, if
his sisters cant have him I dont
know how they can think we
should want him. Now why didn’t
thee take him home with you?
he would enjoyed it very much I
expect. Let him made a little
visit of two or three months
(Page 7)
would have suited them pretty
well. Sarah commences her school
again next week and will probably
board at Williams. I’ve not seen her
since you left. they say she is a great
deal better, rest has done her good
I suppose.
Tomorrow is The Horticultural Fair
at Mineola, Sidney and Carrie have
invited me to go with them but I’ve
nothing yet to wear but that thick
sack and it is pretty warm for that.
I called at W Thomas’ last seventh
day evening. found Marias sister
Eliza there, had just got there,
they were not looking for her so
did not meet her at the cars, she was
very tired, so I did not see her,
she was on her way to Philadelphia
going down this morning.
It seems so pleasant to have Wm
(Page 8)
and Maria there and Elma with
them, she has been in here several
times, she has done considerable sewing
for us, is a very neat sewer. The work
looks so nice. Cousin Samuel has
just gone by; Ive not seen them
now do not know whow they are
getting on with their building.
Well I have written quite a long letter
and it dont seem to be much after
all, so will not tire thee with any
thing more. All send a great deal
of love. And a kiss for Henry I do
want to see him so much. Nettie
very often speaks of him. It seems
to had to think he will forget us all
Hope thy new girl will prove to be a
good one. Give love to cousin Catharine
and the rest too. Write whenever thee
feels like it. With a great deal of
love for thyself and uncle Isaac I
remain thy aff
Sarah.-
