[Isaac Post]
Dear Uncle,
I am not strong enough to write much, being unable to sit up much, and much more feeble than when you were here. I have had an attack of weakness and irritation of the heart accompanied with palpitation and difficult breathing: and proceeding from inflammation of the stomach.
Uncle Joseph called yesterday and urged me to try the prescription I received when thee was with us and I am induced to write thee, hoping to recieve one, in a more definite form - and perhaps too. to hear something to confirm my faith.
The exceedingly irritable condition of my stomach, makes me fearful of tasting any thing heating -
Some years ago - in somewhat similar state - those medicines which were named Ohio thee seemed particularly antagonistic to my feelings. For the sake of clearness - I will propose a few questions -
1. What kind of food is best for me vegetable, animal, or farinaceous? 2 are sweets injurious? 3 are acid fruits? 4 Is salaratus? 5 Is fermented bread injurious? 6 Is milk admissible? 7 In the constipated state of the system, are enemas of water beneficial? 8 Will any form of wine or brandy be of service at any time? Is it useful to wear any supporter, externally or otherwise? I have lost flesh rapidly of late - and if thee can furnish me a particular prescription from Any good authority, and I think I will make trial of it - and feel indebted to thee -
in much love - affection I hope to hear very soon)
