of thy proposal to me to assist Julia Wilbur in her onerous duties - not only willingly but gladly would I go: but there is a reason why I should not. Perhaps thee is aware that Aunt Hannah has become a mere child mentally, and very feeble in strength requiring much care. Thy sister and self could not therefore both leave house at the same time and as I have been absent so much more than she it is no more than right that she should go her way; and I have therefore told her that this winter she shall be at liberty. She will write to thee about it herself. Father said that you felt some what hurt that I did not come and see you when stopped in Rochester on my return from Oberling. I thought of you and would have been glad to do so, But I did not arrive there until evening and did not feel sufficient to find any way to your house at that hour and left early in the morning.
