naming a [committion?] to call a conference wich was
done and one week ago tonight they met at the 15th meeting
house which was filled below stairs and many up [illegible]
first appointed a chairman Thomas Foulk was proposed
but considerable objection was made to him [illegible] in Saul
Willets was unanimously Edward [Merritt?] secretary Jacob [Capeo^or^?]
explained the object of the call there was much said but
some of the preachers could not avoid preaching [somewut?]
for getting it was of asocial not a religious character I guess
there was much that might be useful but as is always not
all they adjourned to meet tonight Joseph went down yesterday
afternoon to hear Karl Shurtz who spoke in Brooklyn and attend
m m today and be at the conference tonight The Philadelphia
[funds?] have had their conferences and they think they are [illegible]
beneficial and pleasant at one of them a person not a member
made inquiries one was whether we had any creed Lucretia answ
-ered him at length and so excellencly also a member of his other
queries James too was very clear I Pohl [illegible] have the material
I believe they read some too explaining or [illegible] as
may be Your remarks about Abby Leaman were quite
in accord with any own it seemed like an occasion for
quite thankfulness that she was released but I do not see
that it would add to the happiness of all for any simil

to make it a desirable thought Joshua is failing does not sit
up scarcely at all At the funeral of Aunt Phebe her daughter
Phebe spoke quite lengthy of her mother of her wishes but said she
was frail had her weaknesses but through the mercy of her
redeemer who had given himself for us and by whose attor
-ny blood she had been permitted to enter into the [illegible] [illegible]
for all his beleiving children a prayer [them?] William Thomas
Jonathan Dickinson Edward Marshall [illegible] from Stephen Word
again at the grave Jacob Conklin had gone to England for goods
William Thomas Wills and Robert W Titus have gone to Vermont
Canada [illegible] on a religious visit W Thomas is [illegible] up E Lewis
old house and thinks he can make it very comfortable expats
to move there immediately on his return Maria and children are
now in Brooklyn at Clarksons many of his [Jericho?] friends think it a bad move
