Dear Brother & Sister It is evening I am alone attend?? with Catherine while the nurse is taking her tea and often reading awhile the suffering & heroism ??? of J Brown as narrated by Redpath his sacrifices his triumphs his death how selfish our lives appear in the contrast and in the midst of these //// you came so pleasantly before one that I thought I would just give you a NY greeting We have felt so anxious about brother fearing he had one of his severe attacks his letter read while I was at home the forepart of the week was very full of interest and with him??can say while there is so much of interest transpiring all around us it is strange not to express our hopes fears or condemnation with the Washington correspondents we fell that it is a momentous ???? & with W. Phillips it may soon
