Dec 3rd 1858 --

My dear Brother --

Father & mother has requested me to say to you that they have this day given up all hopes of Levi's getting well We all feel that he is now dying. Poor man he has suffered, and could we but feel that his soul was prepared to meet its God, we would not mourn. Still may God have mercy on him. We have been expecting Nic home, but he has not come -- he is so near home he ought to come. We could not expect you. Your sister Carrie
