Auburn June 26

Dear Amy, It seems a long time since I heard from thee -- and now as Isaac Chase intends to visit A. in a few days I will just try to revive the embers of affection by penning a few lines to my old [tired] friend who I think will pardon my weakness and love me in my old age as well as she did in years that are fled. I intended to attend Waterloo Mg but I could not do so comfortably on many accts my bodily com- forts have to be studied and regarded more than ever before and home seems to be the only place where I can command all the necessities of my case. [S Van k]has told the [hero] I went with her to visit her family and I can only say a little on the subject on paper tho if I could have a good old chat with my dear Amy I should un- fold to her patient listening ear the fact of my good intentions and consequent satisfaction in the sacrifice which I made to the memory of my husband in the visit to his children & grandchildren which only the initiated can appreciate.
