Giveaway cookbooks, commonplace books, menus, meal plans, ration books, and of course, advertisements and packaging, all offer insights into what people ate, as well as foodways, and customs. All of these items serve to transport us to dinners past, and distant celebrations and observances. We also see evidence of the latest technology (electric stoves!) and how those tools changed the way Americans ate. As you spend time with this exhibit, you'll see a few tastes of food culture in other areas as well.
