Art of the Irish People and Landscape
Helen met her first husband, Ernie O’Malley in 1933, who was an Irish Resistance Army leader that came to America to escape British percecution. When Helen married Ernie, the couple first settled in Dublin. There, Helen began focusing more on photography and sculpture. Ernie and Helen traveled across the country to archeological sites and ancient ruins. Her photographs of these sites showcase Ireland’s struggle with English colonization, the weathering of the items represented the attempted erasure of Ireland’s pagan and catholic past. Helen also photographed portraits of the working class, and the landscape of Ireland's coasts, fields, and towns.
