About the Exhibit

The materials in the Rochester Gas & Electric Lantern Slide Collection were received from Brian Nolan (2006) and Richard D. Meier of RG&E (2010). The Department of Rare Books, Special Collections, & Preservation (RBSCP) combined the materials in 2019 to form the collection. We saw the collection as an excellent opportunity for community engagement because of the visual details and many unknowns. The idea behind this exhibit, which showcases just a small portion of the nearly 500 glass slides, was to connect with Rochester community members who can put names to faces and help us understand what's in these images.

This exhibit was built in 2020 by Evelyn Pineda, a UR undergraduate student in the Career Exploration in Libraries and Mentoring (CEILAM) Program, with assistance from Special Collections Processing Archivist Lev Earle. Lisa Wright, the Digitization Specialist for the Digital Scholarship Lab, generated the slide images used in the exhibit.

Unless otherwise noted, all the materials are from the Department's collections. Permission to publish the images should be obtained from the Department.
