The Douglass Lecture Series (1967)
In 1967, the University commemorated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Frederick Douglass by hosting a series of lectures. The speakers were:
- Benjamin Quarles
- John Hope Franklin
- Whitney Young
- Samuel Nabrit
- Asa T. Spaulding
- William M. Hastie
- John H. Johnson
- W. Allison Davis
Several months prior to the lecture series, the Board of Trustees considered a measure to name the Men’s Dining Center in Douglass’s honor; the decision was announced at the conclusion of the Lecture series in April 1967.
